Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (Romans 8:26 KJV)

The greatest blessing God has given to believers is the secure promise of eternal promises in the heavenly places in Christ accessed through prayer. The desire of the disciples about prayer over 2000 years ago is still a desire in the heart of the new creation today, this is because the Indwelling Spirit in us is a Spirit of intercession. Oh what good news! That every believer has the Great Intercessor in them to do the impossible.

Paul pries deeper on the privilege of the Indwelling Intercessor in us in our text. First ,he reveals the double impossibility of the believer who tries to intercede by himself. He establishes the weakness of our mortal bodies called infirmities as our reason for the Spirit’s intercession hence our ineptness in prayer is taken out as we are divinely “helped” by the Spirit of God. Though, the believer is God’s new creation, he has been justified by faith but his physical body is waiting for glorification but the Spirit of God in him helps and intercedes for him because He knows God’s will. What a source of consolation for every believer!

Many people think that prayer decorated with eloquence and a religious style of talking in prayer is God’s idea of a powerful intercession, whereas intercession is only great when it is led by the Great Intercessor called the Holy Spirit in us because He is the “Maker” of intercession. This means there is nothing which qualifies to be called intercession without the ministry of the Holy Spirit in us. Notice He does this with ” groanings”, which means “unspeakable words” . It refers to the unutterable words, it refers to something too deep for words, or a wordless intercession of someone who is bent on a move. The groaning of the Spirit is an unutterable word displaying the Spirit’s un-fulfillment in the believer in whom He dwells until fulfillment is supernaturally birthed. Hallelujah! He is groaning for me to come out of sickness, groaning for me to come out of wiles of the enemy, for me to understand the mind of God and become strengthened and empowered with divine insights.

Oh how pitiful to pray without His intercessory grace. We merely intercede with our infirmities when the groaning of the Spirit is not on the scene of our prayer. False intercession is relying on tactics and prayer formulae that lacks the groaning ability of the Spirit. The risk of petition begins when the dictates of our mind gains ascendancy in prayer as a substitute for the eternal ministry of the Great Intercessor in us; the Holy Spirit.

Spend more time praying in the Spirit, yielding to the Holy Ghost in prayer remains the greatest profit of divine petition. He will make intercession for you, He will speak over you concerning things you do not know or have words for. Start yielding yourself to Him in prayer. Trust Him to speak through you and you will win.

Rhema word: Maximized Intercession is being yielded to the Great Intercessor in you; the Holy Spirit
Confession: Lord I yield myself to Your Spirit in prayer like never before, I declare my mind is unfruitful in the place of prayer as my spirit gets empowered with glorious revelation for my life as the Holy Spirit intercedes for me in Jesus’ name. Amen
